Salt chlorine generators — install, replace, right-size
Saltwater pools are easier to swim in (softer feel, no chlorine smell, less skin and eye irritation) and easier to maintain day-to-day — the salt cell generates chlorine on demand instead of you handling tablets. The catch: cells scale, cells fail, and undersized cells run themselves to death in 2–3 years.
The rule we live by: cell rating should be 2× pool gallons. A 20,000-gallon pool needs a 40,000-gallon-rated cell. Undersized cells run 24/7 just to keep up — they burn out fast and cost you triple over a decade. We size correctly the first time.

Most homeowners use automation to: turn on the spa heater on the drive home, schedule pump runs around peak electric rates, pause filtration during heavy rain, get freeze-protect alerts in cold snaps, and verify the pool is running normally while traveling.

LED retrofit
Old incandescent or halogen pool lights pull 300–500W and burn out every 1–2 years. LED retrofits pull 30–80W, last 10+ years, and offer color-changing options (Pentair IntelliBrite, Hayward ColorLogic, Jandy WaterColors).
Niche-compatible LED retrofits typically install without draining the pool. Bulb-only swaps run $400–$800 per light. Full niche-and-fixture replacement runs higher and requires a licensed electrician — we bring one in for that piece.

Heat pumps dominate South Florida residential — ambient temperatures stay warm enough year-round that heat pumps run 3–5× more efficient than gas. Lifetime cost is much lower. Gas heaters still win for: fast heat-up (gas heats in 1–2 hours vs. 12–24 for heat pumps), large pools that get used occasionally, and properties where electrical capacity is constrained.
